This session was so special to me, I’ve honestly been looking forward to it for ages–pretty much the moment I clocked Arik popping up in Katie’s instagram posts. Katie was on my midwife team for my last baby, and we joked/wished/planned that I would one day photograph her wedding, and now here we are! With all that anticipation, and what a special person Katie K is to us, I put high pressure on myself when it came to their photos.
And then Texas did the thing that Texas does in spring and just go crazy. Last weekend we were worried it would be too hot, this past weekend, we were wondering if we could even still have sessions! It was going to be cold and no clear skies for our morning session. With their wedding right around the corner, we decided to forge on ahead, but push the start time back (no sunrise means extra sleep!). I brought a parasol for optimism, and umbrellas for practicality.
Even with the surprise raindrops, it ended up being a beautiful morning. I think the weather kept many away from the Stockyards–I’ve never been there before when it’s so quiet and clear. It was a lovely morning to spend with our friend and get to know her future husband.
There are many reasons to have an engagement session, and one of those for me, is to learn my couple’s dynamic. Whenever we’d finish a photo set, and I’d tell them they could “relax” from the pose, it was so sweet how the two would separate for just a moment before gravitating back to one another. It’s always a delight to get to witness my friends find their future spouse, and even better when I get to be a part of their story.
