This wedding was a feast for the eyes, a treat for the soul, and an exercise for my photographer brain.
First off the venue, Springs Events Valley View, is stunning without even any decor. The mansion has a dramatic visage with charm fit for a historic estate. Deana Pueblo Weddings always creates beautiful florals, but these were especially fun to photograph thanks to the vibrant colors and extensive variety.
There were so many moments at this wedding that stood out to me:
While collecting details, Maguire said he still needed to write his vows, we told him no problem, we’d quickly photograph it and get it back to him. Then about half way through the bridal details, Katie shared that she too, needed to write her vows—it was cute to see the couple unintentionally being on the same page (albeit it blank).
When it came time for Katie to get her in her dress, she informed me it needed to “warm up.” Umm, what? In my eight years of photographing weddings, needing to preheat the bride’s dress was a first.
Katie’s family were quick to declare Katie the Most Unserious Bride, and I heartily agreed. When getting dressed, brides usually have a moment where the reality of the day hits and they become so serious for a few moments. Not Katie, she was cracking jokes the whole time, and giving thumbs-up after sharing a first look with her father. That energy carried through the whole day, and it was so much fun to be around.

Wedding photography is a balancing act of artistry and experience–making sure my couples get the beautiful photographs they expect while also ensuring they don’t feel pulled away from their wedding day.
Between the setting sun, and ensuring we got them to their reception, I had these two flying through their portraits–thanks to getting plenty of practice during their engagement session, these two did great!

Katie’s grandparents “won” the Anniversary dance. While Mary Anne shared to, “never go to bed angry;” Gary said, “’till death do you part–murder may be mentioned but never divorce!” He is a character!

I spy a byRA Bride! You can guarantee if one of my past couples is a guest, I’m going to track them down for a photo! Getting to see Lauren, David, and Lauren’s parents was such a sweet treat! Check out their blog here.

The above photo had me absolutely squealing. I rarely set up a photo like this once the reception starts, but when I saw Katie with her flower girl, I had to create this.
