The day started bright and beautiful, all the threats of rain had vanished, leaving only some humidity cause #Texas. We were so thrilled for Katie K and Arik that this day had come. I had a full team behind all the cameras to capture every moment of the day.
The details—florals, bridesmaid dresses—were stunning. I am all for a mismatched Bridesmaid dress moment, especially if we’re playing with patterns and textures! When Christina, our fantastic coordinator for the day, brought me Katie’s bouquet, I could not believe how beautiful and BIG it was. Dearies, I could have photographed those flowers all day.
There was so much energy and joy in everyone. You could feel how much love, support, and excitement was flowing through the day. The groomsmen seemed to be starting a new game every few minutes–there were signs of ping pong, nerf basketball, and baseball happening throughout the day. The girls were cozy in the cabin-style bridal suite, giving major slumber party vibes while playing Never Have I Ever (we love to see it). Katie introduced me to girls by sharing how her midwife notes for me included, “looks like Taylor Swift.”
I naturally checked to make sure my coffee-loving bride had gotten her coffee for the day.
While outside it was all sunshine and clear skies, but moments before the ceremony was to begin under the big beautiful oak tree, it was thundering, lightening, then the skies began to downpour.
Guests grabbed chairs and hurried to the new chapel at the venue. We grabbed all of our gear (thankfully already under umbrellas as a procaution) and immediately worked on our new ceremony plan. Colton was a trooper, helping move decorations, and getting soaked—but he never complained.
A new feeling took over the guests—no longer we were simply witnesses to the ceremony, after the mad dash and restructuring, now we were all part of the story as well.
The rain didn’t dampen the joy, in some ways, it heightened it. The space was more intimate. Everyone was sharing umbrellas, helping relocate chairs, assisting those next to them in getting settled.
Katie K beamed as she came down the aisle, Arik wiping away tears. The storm could not take away the excitement and joy they felt at finally becoming husband and wife. There were so many happy tears at this ceremony, truly you could feel that everyone in attendance had been desiring this union as much as Katie and Arik.
The rain and thunder continued in waves throughout the evening, the energy inside the reception never ceased. The dance floor stayed filled once it was opened. The Groom’s grandparents’ won the anniversary dance–70 years! And everyone was cheers and smiles as the couple left the night, sparklers and rain drops surrounding them as they left to start their married life.

To say I was floored by Katie K’s bouquet is an understatement.

Moments after I took the next photo, we were dashing to take chairs, cameras, and flowers into the chapel.
