Melanie & Rory’s Lakeside Elopement // Lake Mineral Wells State Park

I have many special skills, and apparently one of them is getting people married in less than a week.

You might recognize Melanie from past appearances on the blog–I photographed her senior portraits and her older sister Chelsea’s fiesta inspired wedding. So I was thrilled to see her announce her engagement to her childhood sweetheart Rory–and surprised when she reached out soon after saying she wanted to elope on FRIDAY.

Well dearies, we got down to business-figuring out where would be best for their ceremony. We landed on Lake Mineral Wells State Park–the same location of her senior portraits–she loved the dramatic look of standing on the rocks in the lake.

After that we discussed flowers–she opted for a soft, romantic arrangement of white flowers with a touch of dusty blue, which paired great with her pearl accented outfit (the dress is from Oh Polly). Rory surprised her with a light blue suit to match the look.

The night before the big day, they had a call with Colton to discuss their ceremony preferences (in between hair appointments and nail salon visits naturally). My favorite aspect of their ceremony was how they combined their traditional vow with the ring exchange–a perfect choice if you’re having traditional vows.

Melanie’s family and mine actually go way back–legend has it her parents help set up my parents. Since they were eloping in our neck of the woods, Rory and Melanie got ready at my parents’ house; which was so nice because I was able to capture Melanie’s details before they shared a double first look.

After surprising each other with their wedding looks, we headed to the lake for them to exchange vows and capture some amazing portraits.
